Here's what actually matters when you're buying for a landscaping crew.
Towing capacity comes first
Most landscaping operations tow a trailer — whether that's an open landscape trailer, enclosed trailer, or a large flatbed loaded with equipment. For a fully loaded trailer with mowers, blowers, edgers, and fuel, you can easily hit 8,000–12,000 lbs or more.
A half-ton truck can manage lighter trailer loads, but for most production crews, a Ram 2500 or Silverado 2500HD is the safer choice. If you're running a bigger operation with enclosed trailers or heavy equipment, the Ram 3500 and Silverado 3500HD handle those loads without breaking a sweat.
Truck bed vs. van — which is right for your crew?
Landscaping crews often default to pickup trucks, but cargo vans are worth considering depending on what you're hauling and how you operate.
A Ram ProMaster or Chevy Express Cargo Van works well for crews that carry a lot of hand tools, supplies, or chemicals that need to stay dry and secure. Vans also make theft less visible — gear locked in a van is less tempting than gear sitting in an open truck bed.
That said, if your crew is towing heavy trailers daily, a truck is still the right tool for the job.
Durability and ride quality
Landscaping crews rack up miles — multiple job sites per day, often on uneven terrain or gravel drives. You want a truck with a suspension setup that holds up over time. Both the Ram 2500/3500 and Silverado 2500HD/3500HD are built for commercial use and handle rough conditions better than most light-duty vehicles.
Interior durability
Landscaping crews eat lunch in their trucks, store gear in the cab, and sometimes track in mud and debris. Work truck trim levels on both Ram and Chevy keep the interior simple and easy to clean — vinyl floors, straightforward layouts, no unnecessary materials. For a fleet vehicle that's going to take daily abuse, that's usually the smarter buy over a higher trim.
